Matt Hodge and his partner Jade are poets that write on X (formerly Twitter), the place where they crossed paths and eventually fell in love.
Matt was originally from northern California, now residing in Victoria Australia with Jade. He now has a career in conservation and Jade is an artist and teacher.
These days he writes primarily erotic poetry inspired by his fantasies and experiences, his favourite poets Edgar Allen Poe and Dante Alighieri, as well as the many wonderful poets he reads daily on X. Review of "The Girl With Eyes Of Jade" by Ivy Smith, Liverpool, May 2025
As someone who writes erotic poetry in the same community as Matt, I am very familiar with the prompts he responds to and it is always wonderful to read how someone else interprets the prompts so uniquely, giving us a peek into their mood. Of course, it is usual for me to read these poems in isolation as they are written, but Matt has carefully collated all his together in this volume, offering us a clear view through the window to his soul.
His words expose the strength and depth of his feelings toward his muse, declaring to us all how important she is to him, and how great the connection he has with her truly is. The character limit on each poem is far from an obstacle in getting his feelings across. Instead, it helps to distil his emotions and make them more concentrated and powerful.
The first section, Love, feels so deeply personal. He paints an idyllic picture in many ways, while also suggesting a certain fragility; he wants to keep reminding us of his strength of feeling so it should never be in any doubt. But he also conveys a thirst for more, knowing that it can never be too much for him.
The second section, Sex, is the largest section, which demonstrates the importance of the intimacy and physical connection he shares with his muse. But it is by no means one way. Her feelings and needs are crucial to him, and her pleasure is of paramount importance to his own satisfaction. But he also has fun with the words, and sometimes even the layout, of his poetry, hinting that playfulness has a prominent place alongside the fire and lust he feels for her.
The third and final section, BDSM, I think tells us a little more about her. The trust she has in him and the connection she feels for him too (and his appreciation of that) is reflected out and into his words. But the added dynamic that this aspect of the relationship brings clearly strengthens their bond further and completes the trinity that makes their bond so special.
This is a beautifully written collection that comes straight from the heart, without the need for any fiction or exaggeration. And each poem masterfully evokes intense and vivid pictures in the reader’s imagination despite the short form of each verse.
It’s a privilege to read such personal works from a very talented poet, and it’s made me feel warm and uplifted, seeing first-hand how the feelings stirred and stimulated by the mutual connection between the author and his muse have inspired his creativity, and have shaped and formed such beautiful words to be shared with a world; a public declaration of his feelings and emotions that resonates well beyond the page.

Nelson Brooks
Nelson embarked on his writing journey 30 years ago initially focusing on poetry, using it as means of self-expression, capturing the essence of the places he had explored, while also finding solace in poetry during challenging times. To date, he has composed over 6000 poems.
In 2016, he released his debut novel, "Rules for A Born-Again Bachelor” followed by "Perry Gene" in 2020 and "120" in 2022.
